Small group & private swimming teaching for children in and around Dorking, Surrey

Swimsense was established in September 2000, by Emma Miller, in response to requests from parents and friends for a viable alternative to the more formal and structured swimming lessons at the local leisure centre. Our groups are small to ensure maximum swim time for each child.

At Swimsense we focus on the vital core swimming skills of water safety and confidence, balance and stroke technique. Other important and fun aspects included are diving, underwater swimming and personal survival. In all classes children are encouraged to be active throughout the lesson and to achieve their personal best.

Swimming lessons are 30 minutes for all beginners to Intermediate swimmers starting at 4.00 p.m. at the Priory School in Dorking. We operate on a Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings. There are 3 levels of 1 hour sessions from 5.00 p.m. which are suitable for all advanced Intermediate and Advanced swimmers. We also operate on a Monday and Thursday after school from 3.30 p.m. onwards, and Saturday mornings from 08.30 a.m. at the North Downs Primary school in Brockham. We operate in term time only, with a break for half term with additional, optional classes in the summer holidays. Children join us from many local schools in Dorking, Newdigate, Westhumble, Mickleham, Westcott, Leatherhead, Reigate, Beare Green and Brockham.

Associate Member Institute of Swimming National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (renewed December 2011)

National Rescue Test for Teachers and Coaches (2025)

Lessons are operated in accordance with the guidelines of The Amateur Swim Association

Even those who were initially hesitant in the water quickly develop the skills and self-belief needed to succeed.
